Terms for everyone to understand about electricity distribution

Do you know what a connection to the power grid contract is? Are you familiar with the POD code? Have you heard about power supplementation? Discover useful definitions for any electricity consumer!

See the definitions of the main terms you are likely to encounter in your relationship with us, your electricity distributor:

Technical grid connection approval (ATR)

A document we issue during the connection to the power grid process, which includes both technical information about the work to be carried out and details about connection costs.

ANRE

An acronym for the National Energy Regulatory Authority, the institution that regulates the operation of the national energy system.

Connection certificate

A document issued by the distributor that certifies the proper completion of the connection installation.

Smart meter

An electrical device that records electricity consumption as well as other energy measurements.

Connection to the power grid contract

A contract signed between the distribution operator and the beneficiary of the network connection works, outlining the rights and obligations of each party involved.

Connection solution sheet

A document we, the electricity distributor, prepare for issuing the ATR. In this document, we analyze which connection installation best suits your case.

Energy supplier

One of the most important players in the national energy system, alongside the distributor, producer, transporter, and consumer. The supplier purchases the energy we consume in our homes from various markets where it is traded and periodically issues invoices to consumers for electricity consumption. The supplier also offers certain products and services, such as air conditioning units or emergency interventions, in case you need an electrician, for example.

Performance indicators

Various indicators that the electricity distributor periodically reports to ANRE. They cover multiple aspects of energy distribution, such as the duration and frequency of power outages.

Connection installation

The electrical installation through which the consumption point will be connected to the network – from the public power grid to the delimitation point of the user installation. In most cases, the connection installation is our property.

Usage installation

Your indoor electrical installation, through which you consume electricity. The usage installation is your property (up to the delimitation point). If an issue arises in your indoor installation, you must resolve it on your own by contacting an ANRE-accredited company.

Planned power outages

Power outages we need to implement when modernizing or maintaining the distribution network. Whenever we schedule a power outage, we notify consumers.

Accidental power outages

Power outages caused by unforeseen circumstances, such as a malfunction in our installations and equipment due to severe weather (heatwaves, blizzards, heavy rain, storms), unauthorized excavations, high electricity consumption in certain periods (especially summer and winter), or electricity theft.

Consumption place

A single location or area where you consume electricity through a single user installation.

Electricity distribution operator

The electricity distribution company. Distributors deliver electricity to our homes or offices via low, medium, or high-voltage networks. There are multiple distributors nationwide, each covering one or more regions.

Construction site organization

A temporary situation in which you need electricity to build a structure that will become a consumption place.

POD

An acronym for “Point of Delivery,” representing an identification code for your electricity consumption point, as recorded by the distributor. Its format varies depending on your electricity distributor.

Prosumer

A consumer who is also a producer of electricity using photovoltaic panels.

Delimitation point

The point that separates the user installation from the connection installation.

Approved power

The maximum power you can consume at any given time, as specified in the ATR. The connection installation is sized based on the power you choose when requesting the ATR.

Public interest power grid

The national electrical network, to which any consumer, producer, prosumer, or real estate developer can connect to.

SAIDI

An acronym for “System Average Interruption Duration Index”. An index reflecting the annual average duration of power outages per consumer.

SAIFI

An acronym for “System Average Interruption Frequency Index”. An index reflecting the annual average frequency of power outages per consumer.

Connection solution study

A document prepared by us, the electricity distributor, or an ANRE-accredited company. It is required for issuing the ATR for business clients with very high electricity consumption. The connection solution study includes multiple technical options for achieving the connection.

Power supplementation

An increase over the approved power specified in the existing technical grid connection approval/connection to the power grid certificate. A power supplementation is needed if you notice that you have multiple household appliances that you cannot use simultaneously.
