Consumption profiles are algorithms for the monthly allocation, based on a mathematical model, of the energy consumption recorded monthly by business clients. Consumption profiles are extremely useful for suppliers who, based on them, can estimate their customers’ consumption and, implicitly, the amount of energy they need to purchase to cover consumers’ needs. Consumption profiles are established by electricity distributors in accordance with certain procedures of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). Additionally, consumption profiles are approved by ANRE.

There are specific consumption profiles and residual consumption profiles. Specific consumption profiles are algorithms for the hourly allocation of monthly recorded consumption for a category of consumption points that have similar consumption patterns – such as, for example, hotels or real estate agencies. According to ANRE, the residual consumption profile is a ‘consumption profile obtained by considering, for each consumption point, the same hourly distribution of monthly consumption as the hourly distribution of the monthly consumption of the entire consumer category to which this profile applies.

The consumption profiles were developed in accordance with the ‘Operational procedure for determining and using specific consumption profiles in the licensed areas of Rețele Electrice in Romania.’ The operational procedure was approved by decisions numbered 124, 125, and 126, dated 04.02.2020, by the president of ANRE.
