Bucharest – Reţele Electrice Romania, part of the PPC group in Romania, has completed the modernization works of the electricity distribution networks serving approximately 3500 customers in Dascălu and Petrăchioaia, Ilfov County, following an investment with an estimated total value of the project of over 41 million lei (excluding VAT), co-financed through the Modernization Fund.
The project meant a complete modernization of the electricity grid in the Dascălu and Petrăchioaia areas, as well as of the Dascălu medium voltage line, which also partially supplies customers in the localities of Moara Vlăsiei, Ștefăneştii de Jos and Afumați. The works included the complete modernization of the medium voltage power line; replacement and reconfiguration of transformer substations; moving overhead power grids underground for a cleaner urban appearance and less risk of damage; digitization of the network through the use of fiber optics; Connecting all equipment in a centralized monitoring and control system, which allows the identification of faults in the distribution network, but also rapid interventions in case of problems.
Through this investment, Reţele Electrice Romania aimed to strengthen the safety and continuity in the electricity supply, reduce losses from the network and increase the level of safety of the infrastructure and personnel, in full compliance with the technical standards in force. At the same time, the project supports the objectives of energy transition and digitalization of the networks, contributing to the development of a modern, resilient infrastructure oriented to the needs of the communities.

The modernization of the 20 kV Petrăchioaia power line involved replacing the overhead network with 49.69 km of underground cables for the medium voltage network, and the low voltage network was extended by 16.77 km. Also, new transformer substations were installed to meet future consumption requirements and the existing ones were modernized, totaling 40 secondary substations; a network of 42.98 km of fiber optics was installed, extended compared to the initial plan, to allow the control and monitoring of an addition of 8 more secondary substations.
The results of the project will be monitored for five years, to ensure sustainability and long-term benefits, in accordance with the provisions of the Funding Guide.
By completing this project, Reţele Electrice Romania is taking an important step in modernizing the energy infrastructure in Ilfov County and improving the quality of life for local communities.
Reţele Electrice Romania continues its investment plan in 2026 for its area of responsibility, with the objective of building a modern, digitized electricity distribution network ready to respond to its consumers with solutions adapted to the new realities of the energy transition. Also, projects with funding attracted from the PDD and the Modernization Fund programs will be started in the three areas, Banat, Dobrogea and Muntenia, which will be completed in the period 2026-2029 in the amount of 1.4 billion lei, of which approx. 1 billion lei are non-reimbursable funds.
Recele Electrice Romania operates networks with a total length of about 136,000 kilometers in three important areas of the country: Muntenia (including Bucharest), Banat and Dobrogea, covering a third of the local distribution market, and is developing an investment program to improve the quality of services, the safety and performance of the networks and the local implementation of the PPC group’s environmental standards. The electricity grids operated by Reţele Electrice Romania have 293 primary stations and over 26,000 secondary substations.
