Rețele Electrice Romania launches tender worth around €59 million to buy power transformers

București – Rețele Electrice Romania, part of the PPC Group in Romania, launched on the electronic public procurement platform SEAP a public tender with an estimated maximum value of around 59 million euro (VAT excluded), for the purchase of power transformers, which will be used in investment projects carried out between 2025 – 2030.

The tender, which has a maximum total value of 58.187.208 euros, is for the purchase of two types of transformers, three-phase power transformers for IT/MV and MV/MV respectively.

Power transformers are essential equipment for electricity distribution. Considering our strategic plan for modernization and construction of new power substations, as well as minimizing the impact on the environment, we are launching this tender for power transformers, through which we want to purchase the necessary for the next 5 years. The distribution network is continuously growing, consumption and production needs, digitalization, evolve and develop rapidly, stimulated by the energy transition. Our goal and role is to continuously improve, develop and expand the grid, so that our customers benefit from efficient and resilient services in the electricity supply.

The contract will run for 60 months. To encourage sustainable practices, the company has included specific criteria in the selection process. Bidders demonstrating the use of recyclable packaging will receive an additional score in the evaluation of technical offers. This underlines the company’s concern for environmental protection and the implementation of green solutions in the supply chain.

This initiative is part of a wide-ranging energy infrastructure investment plan, through which the company aims to reduce technological losses, improve service quality and increase the capacity to integrate renewable energy sources into the grid.

Rețele Electrice Romania continues its investment plan in 2025 for its area of responsibility, with the objective of creating a modern electricity distribution, digital and ready to respond to its consumers with solutions adapted to new realities of the energy transition. This year, Rețele Electrice Romania plans to invest more than 730 million lei. On top of that, there will be projects with funding attracted from the POIM and the Fund for Modernization in the three areas, Banat, Dobrogea and Muntenia South, which will be completed in the period 2026-2029 worth 1.4 billion lei, of which approx. 340 million lei which will be fully financed from own funds.

By the end of the 2025, the total number of smart meters installed by the company Rețele Electrice Romania will reach approximately 2 million, the highest volume reached by any electricity distribution operator from Romania.

Rețele Electrice Romania operates electricity networks with a total length of approximately 134.000 kilometers across three important regions of the country: Southern Muntenia (including Bucharest), Banat and Dobrogea, covering one-third of the local distribution market, and developing a program of investments aimed at improving the service quality, the network safety and performance, and local implementing of the PPC Group’s environmental standards. The electricity networks operated by Rețele Electrice Romania include 289 substations and more than 25.000 secondary substations.
