The Modernization Fund

The Modernization Fund was established as a financing mechanism under Directive 2003/87/EC of 13 October 2003 of the European Parliament and of the European Council, for establishing a system for trading greenhouse gas emission allowances within the European Union and for amending Directive 96/61/EC (referred to here as the ETS Directive). The presented projects are implemented through the Modernization Fund – 3 Modernization and construction of new segments of energy infrastructure – 3.2 Energy infrastructure – Support for the expansion and modernization of the power grid.
Call: Non-competitive procedure for supporting investments for the expansion and modernization of the power grid.
The budget allocated for the call for projects is €1,103,442,829 through COM Decision no. MF 2022-1 RO 0-017/23.05.2022. The financing of projects under this call is non-refundable and consists of the reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred for the implementation of the project at the value and under the conditions established by the financing contract. The estimated public support from the Modernization Fund is 80% of the eligible expenses.
